2012 Spring Conference

A history-packed Spring conference will be held April 13-14 in Nacogdoches. Nacogdoches has flown 9 flags: the 3 flags of the short-lived
r
ebellions, known as the Gutierrez-Magee Republic, the James Long Republic, and the Fredonia Republic; and six flags representing  the Kingdom
of Spain, the Kingdom of France, the Mexican Republic, the Lone Star Flag of the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America, and the
Stars and Stripes of the United States.

Among the many historic sites we can choose to visit are the old Stone Fort on the campus of Stephen F. Austin university, the Oak Grove
Cemetery where four signers of the Declaration of Independence including Thomas J. Rusk are buried, and the Sterne-Hoya House Museum and
Library, which is Nacogdoches oldest home.  Adolphus Sterne was a financier of the Texas Revolution. There is also an old Opera House in
Nacogdoches and remains of the La-Nana Creek trail that was forged by the Caddoes some 1,200 years ago.

Those who do not want to drive may take the bus to and from Nacogdoches. The bus, which will also provide transportation for our tour of the city,
will leave the east parking lot of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church  at the corner of Preston Road and Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas at 11:00 A.M.,
Friday, April 13, 2012 and return on Sunday.  We will meet members from other parts of the state in Nacogdoches at the Old University Building
and then drive to our convention hotel, The Fredonia, reservation number 936-564-1234.  The TOMFRA group rate is $112.50 plus tax and
reservations should be made as soon as possible in order to secure available rooms.  A letter from President Pat Coggan will be mailed prior to
March 1.  Tomfrans will enjoy meeting old and new friends on a pleasant and informative tour of one of Texas' oldest cities.
